See Wood Carvers at Work at the Folk Art Center

Asheville, NC —Members of the Western North Carolina Carvers will present a live woodcarving exhibition celebrating the enduring craft of wood art in the Southern Appalachians.

Throughout the event, artisans will be on-site demonstrating their techniques — transforming blocks of wood into intricate works of art. Guests are invited to stop by, watch the process unfold, and ask questions about everything from how the artists select their wood to the specialized tools they use and the creative inspirations behind each piece.

The Western North Carolina Carvers are known for preserving traditional carving methods while exploring innovative approaches that reflect contemporary craftsmanship. From hand-carved figures and animals to detailed reliefs and abstract forms, their work embodies both the heritage and evolution of Appalachian woodworking.

Located at Milepost 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in East Asheville, the Folk Art Center serves as the headquarters of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. The Center features exhibitions, galleries, and a craft shop showcasing the work of over 750 regional artists, representing the highest standards of traditional and modern Appalachian craft.

This event is free and open to the public, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with local artists and gain a deeper appreciation for the skill, patience, and creativity behind the art of woodcarving.
