VOLUNTEER

Volunteer with the Southern Highland Craft Guild

The Southern Highland Craft Guild, founded in 1930, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the crafts and craftspeople of the Southern Highlands through education, resources, conservation, and marketing.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Folk Art Center

As the Guild's headquarters, the Folk Art Center offers educational exhibitions, a craft library, live demonstrations, and school outreach. Volunteers are essential to its day-to-day operations and play a key role in welcoming visitors from around the world. Some volunteer roles include:

  • Main Gallery Attendant
  • Special Events Host/Hostess
  • Clerical Assistant

Volunteer Opportunities at the Craft Fairs

The Guild hosts two Craft Fairs each year (July & October) at the Harrah's Cherokee Center-Asheville (Asheville Civic Center), featuring over 200 artists, craft demos, and live music. Volunteers assist Guild staff and exhibitors, helping the events run smoothly. Roles include:

  • Greeters/Program Distribution
  • Information Desk Support
  • Exhibitor Lunch Relief

Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to support local arts, engage with talented craftspeople, and connect with visitors. Volunteers also enjoy field trips to studios and an annual Holiday Party.
