Kaleidoscopic Whimsy

Focus Gallery Exhibition | October 11 – December 28, 2025
Folk Art Center, Milepost 382, Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, NC

The Southern Highland Craft Guild presents Kaleidoscopic Whimsy, a new Focus Gallery exhibition on view October 11–December 28, 2025, at the Folk Art Center. Featuring work by Betty Ann Winters (fiber), Barbara Jones (textile), Liz Spear (textile), Nikki Pynn (mixed media), and Cindy Sugg (clay), the show highlights the inventive use of material, color, and texture that defines the artistry of Guild members.

Each artist brings a distinct perspective to the theme:

  • Betty Ann Winters combines Nuno felting, weaving, and hand-stitching to create layered textile pieces that blend transparency and texture.
  • Barbara Jones explores the boundaries of fiber through stitching, fusing, burning, and painting, transforming simple materials into richly textured surfaces.
  • Liz Spear contributes expressive textile works that merge functional form with painterly pattern and design.
  • Nikki Pynn works across materials to build mixed-media pieces that emphasize rhythm and visual balance.
  • Cindy Sugg presents clay forms that connect surface, pattern, and structure, grounding the exhibition in sculptural expression.

Together, these artists offer a lively mix of media and approaches that reflect the Guild’s ongoing commitment to contemporary craft in the Southern Highlands.

The Focus Gallery features rotating exhibitions by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, showcasing both traditional and innovative work in an intimate setting. The Folk Art Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.

High-resolution images and artist interviews are available upon request.
