Asheville, NC — The Southern Highland Craft Guild invites the community to celebrate Fiber Day at the Folk Art Center on May 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This annual event, a favorite tradition for over 30 years, highlights the diverse and vibrant world of fiber arts, from felting and quilting to weaving, knitting, spinning, and more.
This year, Fiber Day takes on special significance as it serves to support the recovery of the Western North Carolina craft community in the wake of Hurricane Helene. While admission to the event is free, attendees are encouraged to consider making a donation to support the Folk Art Center staff, who have been instrumental in assisting local artisans as they rebuild their livelihoods. Every donation helps to strengthen the resilience of WNC’s creative economy and supports the artists who are keeping the region’s handmade traditions alive.
Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to watch live demonstrations from Guild members and other talented fiber artists. They will also be able to learn about traditional and contemporary techniques behind handmade textiles, including weaving, quilting, spinning, and more. The event is designed to be interactive, with hands-on activities for all ages, making it a perfect day for families and individuals alike.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own handwork projects to work on during the event, making it an even more engaging experience. Whether you’re a seasoned artisan or just curious about the craft, Fiber Day offers something for everyone to enjoy.
