I have been transforming images to paper and ink for over 40 years–within both the commercial and the fine art worlds. I have found that the tradition of woodblock* printing and plein air painting allows one to express the ways that life responds to light and time. This is this challenging interplay that holds endless fascination and possibilities for me as both a vehicle for my own growth and a means of understanding. Whether through carved block or brush, I begin each image as if it is my first. Nature usually speaks in whispers – to receive its message, I must be quiet, open, and willing to respond in new directions. Through my artwork, I hope that the viewer can connect with the multi-faceted intricacies of nature that can teach us the depth of what surrounds us.
John Amoss has been teaching printmaking and making woodblocks for over 25 years and has worked as a guest print maker in Tokyo. John’s prints have been exhibited in North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. His work has won several national and international awards; and are included in permanent collections around the world.
