Each piece I create is one-of-a-kind and unique. I fabricate the components by hand out of solid silver sheet metal and wire of different gauges, some with 14K gold accents. I use a variety of natural stones in different shapes, sizes, and colors. The designs on the back of my pendants are all sawed out by hand. I have always admired hidden meaning in art and that is what initially inspired me to saw out designs on the back of my work. I feel as though "I download from Spirit" the design of each piece... then it is up to me to create it with the utmost craftsmanship that I can. My website [rachelledavis.com] shows many examples of my work and more about what I do. I also love to create custom work.
I have been interested in art and jewelry ever since I was a child. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and originally went to college there for mechanical engineering and took metalsmithing classes as a hobby. I was an engineer throughout college and for two years after graduation. In 1999, I decided instead to follow my passion for creating jewelry and my longing for the mountains. I packed up my car with all my metalsmithing tools, whatever else would fit and headed West! I have been self-employed as a goldsmith and silversmith ever since. I lived in the magical mountains of Colorado for ten years and then the mystical mesas of Santa Fe for five years. I recently moved to the land of my ancestors in the lush, green, water-kissed Appalachian Mountains near Asheville, NC. I am continually inspired by our Mother Earth and the natural art that surrounds us all. I feel passionately compelled to put as much meaning as possible into my work... to gratify Spirit and to hopefully inspire others to become more of who they are! I strive to put my heart and soul into what I create and I enjoy sharing it with others through silver and gold.
