Rob Scaffe
I began woodworking as a hobby in the late 70’s while attending Trident Technical College in Charleston SC. After working as a technician for a year I decided to pursue woodworking as a career and obtained a job in a small production cabinet shop. Shortly thereafter I opened my own business on the ground floor of an old-ex cigar factory in Charleston SC.
Here I continued to design and build cabinetry and furniture as well as architectural millwork, including the reproduction of many doors, windows, moldings and carved corbels. My millwork can be found in the First Governors house (Rutledge house), the Charleston Yacht Club, the Visitors Reception Center, First Scott’s Church and many other Historical renovations around town.
In the mid 90’s I closed my shop and went to work for a large Architectural Millwork Company, designing and coordinating traditional interiors and jobs nationwide.
In 1999 I relocated to east TN, Kingsport, where I set up a small one man shop and alternated between building furniture and traveling the country as a technician for Michael Weinig, a German manufacturer of high end woodworking machinery.
In January 2017 I retired from traveling the country and am now concentrating on furniture both historical reproductions and original work. My furniture has been shown in Fine Woodworking design Book 3 as well as the Folk Art Center in Asheville NC.
