Wooden Sunray Wall Piece
$275.00
Painted and collaged wooden sunray wall piece. These sunrays were inspired by Val’s love of the mountains, and her roots in Western North Carolina. She use a mix of domestic and exotic woods to create depth and tonality in each one-of-a-kind piece. And, in an effort to cut down on waste, and be as thoughtful with this precious resource as she can, most of the wood used in these small landscapes is sourced from other woodworkers. Offcuts and pieces that are too small for furniture and cabinet makers are just right for these little sunrays.
- 8 1/2″long x 8 1/2″wide x 1/2″deep
- Natural wood pieces

Description
Artist Valerie Berlage sources her wood pieces from other woodworkers in the area. The individual pieces go through a lot of preparation to become the beautiful, smooth components of her works of art. A typical piece has 1 coat of primer, at least 5 layers of paint, and a whole lot of sanding. A finish of wipe-on polyurethane is applied (3 coats, and steel wool in between), and then a final coat of a paste wax (wipe on, then buff off). Finally, the piece is assembled and epoxied down to a substructure. A labor of love!
