Description
“Some jewelers look at images for ideas; others with sketch out designs before they start creating. Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina gives me the opportunity to periodically get lost in the ripples and folds of the topography of the region as follow the twists and turns of the “road less traveled by” and observe different vignettes. After these little trips, I just sit at my bench and let the images resonate in my head before they show up magically in the jewelry that I create.
My jewelry designs and stone colors are chosen with the idea in mind that light in its various levels of color and depth is released from the hidden shadows and dances through defiantly. These days, my work has become a study of contrast through textures, colors, and pattern. In the quest to emulate the colors, textures, and patterns that I observe around me, I use both ancient and contemporary techniques to create my jewelry designs. Torch soldering, forging, creating handmade bezels and basket settings, chain maille, chasing and repousse’, wax carving and lost wax vacuum casting, and cold connections are often combined with the use of a hydraulic press or miniature pulse arc welding to skillfully create timeless jewelry designs in 14 & 18k gold, sterling silver, titanium, and other alloys and metals.” ~ Ruthie Cohen
